Seed Delivery to Schools
Overview
The Pen Pal Gardening Program provided by Seed Programs International with support from Development Solutions was officially launched April 24, 2012 with the seed and letter delivery to 3 classrooms in the Ulaanbaatar area. Representatives from Development Solutions traveled to and presented the program to students in three schools. The presentation went as follows:
* An overview of Seeds Programs International and an explanation of the Pen Pal Gardening Program
* Delivery of the letters written by the US students with attached translations
Growing berry tree training was conducted on April 28, 2011
Spring is appropriate time to plant trees. Therefore Development Solutions conducted organized training for its clients who want to grow berry trees. during the training, the participants learned how to plant and care various types of berry trees such as blueberry, sea buckthorn, plum, apple, strawberry and sweet-brier.
Training and study trip on building storage was conducted on April 29, 2011.
After growing their vegetables, a problem faces farmers next is storing their harvest. Building a storage is not easy task and one has plan carefully and follow correct procedures to build it. In order to educate our clients on building storages, Development Solutions organized storage building training followed by study trips. The participants learned about building different types of storages and different methods for storing various vegetables. After the training, the participants visited various types and sizes of storages around Ulaanbaatar and saw how to build them.
Oyu Tolgoi LLC has started a program to support micro and small businesses of Umnogobi province
Local Business and Economic Development program of Oyu Tolgoi LLC has started a development program for micro and small businesses of Umnogobi province. Development Solutions is the implementer of the program which will run through 2011 in Dalanzadgad, Khanbogd, Manlai and Bayan-Ovoo soums of the province. Development Solutions will work to train and consult selected beneficiaries on managing their business operations, to improve their technical skills, and to eventually create self-sustaining businesses in the region. The leading banks of Mongolia, Khan Bank and XacBank will partner in the program and will provide low-cost loans to selected business owners.
Dairy processing training was conducted
In recent years, dairy farming has been popular amongst business people and number of dairy farms has been growing. To address the need, Development Solutions has conducted “Dairy processing and making dairy products” training between June 28 and 30, 2011. A total 16 farmers have attended the training which was conducted at the laboratory of Milk project. The participants learned about making eight different types of dairy products and were provided knowledge on health and safety standard of dairy production, packaging standards and labels.
Amazing Service training is being conducted successfully
Development Solutions have provided its Amazing Service training to number of restaurants, stores and front-office workers. This time, the training was conducted to the employees of wholesale trade and chain stores. The training focused on teaching employees about service standards and aligning their personal goals with their organization’s goal. The management of the company will be trained next time.
Business trainings for groups were conducted successfully
At the request of EMIRGE program, funded by USAID and implemented by CHF International, Development Solutions conducted business trainings to dairy farmer groups in Mandal soum of Selenge province between June 7 and 10, 2011. A total of 30 farmers participated the trainings where they gained knowledge and skills manage their business activities.
Study trip was organized
Development Solutions organized a study trip for agricultural businesses on June 17, 2011. Clients from Selenge, Darkhan, Dornod and Ulaanbaatar attended the tour where visited various vegetable farms, chicken and dairy farms. DS agricultural trainer provided on-site consulting on growing vegetables and berry trees.
